Smells like coffee, looks like an ipa. I didn’t get much of the stout-like character—the white stout moniker might be a misnomer—aside from the coffee notes.

L:. Pours a brilliant yellow with a small white head and no lacing.
S:. Fresh brewed expresso, notes of sweet lactose, some roasted malt, the coffee is the dominant aroma by far.
T:. Lots of fresh brewed expresso, with notes of sweet lactose and roasted malt, the coffee is very strong and hides some of the other flavors.
F:. Carb is a little high, medium body.
O:. Solid beer, but I wish the coffee was a touch toned down to allow the other flavors to shine.

i have a really hard time calling a white stout a stout when adding it as a beer here on BA, are we counting these as stouts now just because its in the name? in any event, its cool to see some innovation from odell, its been mostly the same stuff for awhile now it seems like, so this was a treat to find. i thought it was stronger than this, as it drank a little boozy to me, thought it was up in the 9% abv range, but whatever. the oats and wheat in the mash give it plenty of body and fluff in the feel, stout-esque sure, but there is also a lot of sugar here, maybe lactose added, and it covers up the stout depth the coffee tries to contribute with the roastiness and all, at best its a white brown ale, with some real obvious cocoa notes in the coffee and the sweet malt layer, but lets not start that as a style too. its real smooth, and the coffee is warming, almost cozy, i wish it was just a bit less sugary. overall i cant believe this style has had legs this long, it just keeps running, but this is better than most, and like with all odell beer, the quality is there. i like the coffee in this, its prominent and there all the way through, and i think the grain build is intelligent. enjoyable as an after dinner drink.
