On Tap .Pours a dense black color with a nice tan head and lacing. Taste is barrel forward with a mix of spirits , with molasses chocolate and coffee , as it warms i get more rum and sweetness ,neither barrel overpowers nor is it too sweet , a tasty sipper to drink slowly

Thick liquid. Decent head but good lacing. Nice spots and sticky liquid.

Nose has chocolate, cherries, vanilla, roasted grains. Light whiskey and sweet alcohol.

Taste is surprising delightful. Lots of chocolate with caramel and toffee sweetness. Mild whiskey, oak and cherries. Notes of vanilla with faint leather and tannin. Earthy hops to balance it are quite gentle, leaving I mild dry graininess.
Feel is rich and thick, while flowing lightly across my tongue. Gentle creaminess. Alcohol is barely noticed

A superb brew. I wish I had more. Easy drinking, and while it's a big stout, it drinks more like a dry Irish. So glad this was in the BA big stouts box.

A very nice BA Imperial Stout! Jet black with a thin delicate head. Mild whiskey notes. Somewhat thin mouthfeel. Sweet flavor with a hint of molasses. This is an enjoyable BA Imperial Stout. Not too sweet and not an overpowering BA aroma or flavor.

Name: Barreled Treasure Horchata Stout
Brewery: Odell Brewing
Location: Fort Collins, CO
Style: Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout
ABV: 12%
Date: 2022
Since the last beer was a horchata porter, why not a horchata stout? I am staying with a tulip glass and served it at 52 degrees. The pour created a creamy two-fingered light tan head with dismal retention. The retention came and went, leaving no lacing on the glass. I am charting the color around SRM 34 dark brown, nearly black. The appearance is sub-par for this style. I have seen several imperial stouts with beautiful head retention of over 12 percent ABV.
Nosing the glass, I smell cinnamon, chocolate, caramel, lightly roasted coffee, vanilla, molasses, oak, resin, bourbon, dark roasted malts, bready, and alcohol. The aromas are delightful, I enjoyed nosing the glass.
This beer has been in the fridge since I purchased it. However, this beer has an awful off-flavor. I tasted sour milk with overcooked veggies. I also taste chocolate, cinnamon, bourbon, oak, dark roasted malts, and vanilla. I am not going in for another sip.
The mouthfeel is dry. The body is medium-plus, has medium carbonation, and finishes terribly.
The beer has issues; I will not dissect what happened. This beer is a drain pour. Sorry, Odell, everything else I have tried was far better.

Bottle from the stout box shared with Paul.
Inky black with a thin tan head that dissipates quickly.
Big barrel notes with some roasty chocolate to counter.

Poured a black body with minimal khaki head that quickly dies. Roasted malt aroma with some booze and something akin to a burnt-on-bottom chocolate brownie. Smooth, actually light to medium body with something like a chocolate sweetness mixing with dry and roasted malts along with a mild booziness and then even some black cherry on a woody finish.

12 oz bottle, poured into a Spiegelau barrel-aged glass at ~40 degrees F, and allowed to warm during consumption.

L: Pours a typical stout black, and forms a couple fingers of dense light tan foam with great retention and copious lacing.

S: Dark toffee underlaid with chocolate, and a hint of molasses. Definitely more confectioner's shop, and less bakery.

T: Toffee, milk chocolate, raisins, and plums right out of the gate, A faint barrel presence, and the vaguest hint of light roast coffee.

F: Thick, but not quite as syrupy as one might want for an IS.

O: Not bad, which surprises me, as this might be the first Odell offering I've tried which hasn't blown my hop-o-meter off the far end of "oh dear god no". A pleasant surprise.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours black with a thick and creamy head - about an inch. Great lacing. The nose is roasted malts, vanilla, caramel, and cream. The taste is full of roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, figs, prunes, vanilla, and an earthy note. Excellent. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy.

Very thin, tan head. Very opaque and dark brown look. Quite subtle, deeply toasted caramel with a bit of a cream nose, for the aroma. Some sharpness to start the taste. A bright, very heavily roasted grain flavor presides, with a medium heavy body and the slightest amount of a smoked toffee tinge, in the background.

Bottle cellared at 54.3° poured into pint glass Pours very dark brown with a medium tan head. Decent lacing. Initial impression is milk chocolate, bourbon, roasted malts, coffee and oak. Kinda sweet, but not objectionably so. Alcohol is quite well hidden. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, but a bit on the thin side for a RIS. Finish fades to chocolate and coffee. Liked it a lot, but not best-of-box.

Appearance: A dark amber body, opaque to light, is surmounted by a large, dense, and very fine-beaded head with superb retention, A thick and unbroken sheet of lace decorated the glass wall.

Aroma: A rich and boozy note permeates the aroma, with scotch and wood dominating; rich notes of malt, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, and coffee are also present. Unlike some other barrel-aged examples I have tried, the aroma is subtle, restrained, and complex without being "over-the-top".

Taste: The taste opens with pronounced flavors of scotch, bittersweet chocolate and vanilla. Soon after, there is an interlude of wood and brown sugar. A moderate, warming note from the alcohol is also present but seems restrained, considering the ABV of twelve percent. Later in the taste, the wood notes dominate. At the finish, there is a mild, lingering note of sweet caramel, pairing well with the wood.

Mouth feel: Very smooth and soft, quite full, with a presentation like that of whole milk. The carbonation is a mere afterthought.

Drinkabilty/notes: Barreled Treasure is very well-crafted; with an ABV of twelve percent, it could have been a heavy-handed alcohol bomb, but it is not. Rather it is gracious and subtle. A notable effort from Odell and a worthy first beer of 2023. Cheers and Happy New Year!

Presentation: Packaged in a custom twelve-ounce brown glass bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a La Fin du Monde tulip. Interestingly, the "Bottled" date is stated as "2023", nothing more. This is, shall I say, slightly exaggerated, as this package, a four-pack of twelve-ounce bottles, was purchased in mid-December of 2022. This edition was aged in Straight Malt Whisky barrels from Spirit Hound Distillers.
