On tap at the Odell taproom. Served cold in a pint glass.
It has a very hazy murky brown color with a lot of suspended silty sediment. The head is minimal and diminishes quickly leaving a small amount of spotty lacing behind.
Aroma is classic dunkelweizen but with more banana than usually found in German examples.
The flavor is just about right but that banana comes through strong again here. Nice malt base with minimal hopping. The rye adds a spiciness that is perfect for the season and I'm sure the yeast contributes here as well.
Mouthfeel is really nice with big body, almost thick, and creamy smooth. The suspended yeast doesn't do it any favors in appearance but it's great for mouthfeel. Alcohol comes through a little stronger than it should but it is a minimal distraction.
Overall an enjoyable example and an interesting interpretation/alteration of the style.
