really cool idea, brewed with the impressive leopold brothers distillery and also with storm peak brewing, a cream ale on the stronger side done with the same mash bill as their bourbon i believe, with over 50% malted corn, pretty neat concept that i thought was more the kentucky common idea, although that may also have something specific about the ferment like a steam beer that this as a cream ale likely does not. anyway, its a great idea and the execution is cool, this is a really high corn proportion is it not? pretty honey colored brew with a churned up white cream head and just a slight deviation from full clarity. it smells subtle, faintly floral and sweet, sort of a cooking pancakes vibe to me, a little bit of alcohol in play as well, some doughy character, and to me just a little bready heartiness, more robust right away than the standard cream ale in just about every respect. i get less sweetness from the corn in the flavor than we usually expect, and i keep trying to kind of taste bourbon in it, but of course i dont, despite some grain heft this does have an almost lager crispness that is befitting of the style, just more body and length than most. i like the high corn, it has actual yellow corn flavor, sort of a grits thing, pretty cool in here, subtle white wine and yellow florals as it warms too, champagne and clover honey, biscuit dough, and a barely there grassy hop thing right before the swallow. faint yeast presence, light alcohol perceptible, good earthy sort of agricultural vibe, real rad concept for a beer and an enjoyable and surprisingly sturdy pint. well done, some very clever beers coming out of this odell location!
