Canned on 6/6/2025 oops, but this is the first I have seen this at all on the shelves.

A: Pours a dark black, nearly opaque...if not for some ruby red highlights around the edges. A one finger beige head forms and recedes to leave some lace behind.
S: Aroma is simple, spot on and enjoyable. Of dried roast, toasted malts, coffee, milk chocolate.
T: Maybe a bit lacking tastes wise? The typical flavors are there, roast, coffee, malts, chocolate. Just seems a little faded. Though still not bad at all.
M/O: A lighter body than expected. For 5% while obviously not big by any means, it still seems a little light for the ABV. Good carbonation and clean. A nice stout to come back to, I can have a few with ease.

Maybe not my favorite version of a dry stout. Everything typical for the style is there, but maybe its just a bit older than it should be. I still feel it could have a bit fuller feel to it as well. I need to compare it to my local, Saint Arnold's Irish Hello, which is right at 4%, and seems to have the same "fullness" of body. Regardless of little quibbles, it is good, I like it, and will get it again.

From a 12oz can. Canned on 05/28/2025

This beer pours pitch black into my glass. The head is slight - 1 finger - and brown colored. Frothy looking and it has decent retention. Some sticky looking lacing on the glass.
There's a touch of malt in the nose. Slightly nutty and roasted smelling. Dark chocolate notes also touch my nose. It has a "dry" smell to it that I can't explain beyond that.
The flavor has a lot going on here. There's a nuttiness that comes into play right away. The malts then go to a dark chocolate flavor. Both elements listed are roasted tasting. Notes of coffee also show up in the flavor profile. There's a bitter flavor that is on the back that does linger in my throat.
"Dry" is a good word for the feeling. The beer does coat my throat with the feeling. The beer has a nice feeling and fullness to it, even though it is only 5%.
Wow, I am quite impressed with this beer. It has a lot going on in it, even though it is only 5%.

Black in color with little light penetration. There’s a fingernail of brown covering a quarter of the middle of the top. The aroma is of roasted barley and chocolate. I’m tasting roasted barley and chocolate. The mouth is smooth and approachable.

Class act. Understated excellence. Very satisfying and balanced. Nothing out of place, very smooth, highly recommended.

Remembering a time when beer flights were all the rage, the last one, the one on the right, the dark one- it was always a stout, a stout like this.

Odell's Old Dood's Stout pours an expected deep and dark coffee brown, maybe black before releasing a sheet of dainty creme froth and a robust perfume of coffee, cocoa, nuttiness, toast and underlying savory sweetness. And its that sweetness the spreads across the tastebuds with similar notions of chocolate, caramel and light cream. Gentle hops grow to give the flavors a coffee-like balance with a soft and woodsy bitterness to close.

Full bodied but also relaxed in its robust character, the drinkable stout is a welcomed flavor for the craft beer fans when we called them microbreweries. Good times.

On nitro, pours just like a Guinness, with a black body and a slowly rising creamy tan head that sits proudly atop the beer for the entire journey.

The nose has a little cocoa and toasty malt that is almost smoky, and that smoky note is more pronounced on the taste and works really well with the cocoa flavor. The mouthfeel is surprisingly rich and creamy. This is outstanding, IMHO.

This brew is a thoroughly black color. It has a tan head that quickly falls. The aroma is heavily roasted...almost charcoal in quality, with espresso coffee. The taste is dry, with intense roasted grain flavors. Moderate hop bitterness...this one is all about the roasted flavors. Lighter in body than expected and lots of roasted flavors in the finish. Certainty a dry stout.

Odell needed a dark year-round beer since they don't seem to want to bring back Cutthroat Porter, so this is their latest offering. On the website it calls this a seasonal, but I thought I saw that it would be offered all year. Anyway, it's pretty good, a nice 5% stout that isn't super dry, but it finishes a bit watery. It has plenty of the roasty flavor to complement the malt, and there's enough of the chocolate flavor to balance out the dryness so the mix is about right overall, but I still wanted just a bit more from this beer. I'd try the nitro version on tap to see how it compares to the cans that I bought.
