On tap at Freshcraft for Craft Beer Week. According to the server this is the result aging the regular Double Pilsner in toasted oak barrels that were once filled with Odell IPA. The IPA was then emptied and Double Pilsner went in right after capturing a little bit of the fruity flavors the IPA left behind. According to the paperwork it's listed as 5.5% though this is obviously a typo. The beer is served in a pint glass and arrives a hazy golden yellow with a 1 finger white head, good retention and some lacing. The nose is bright with a lot of fruity tropical character, which wasn't expected, with hints of vanilla, oak, toasted malt. The flavor builds on the nose with a huge fruity character that reminds me of the Wooden Elephant IPA Odell aged in oak barrels, perhaps this was the original beer in these barrels? Anyhow, lemon citrusy with a mild bitterness, a hint of the alcohol warmth, with hints of vanilla, toasted malt, and oak. Sweet, but not overly so. Finishes with a lingering fruity sweetness and oak on the tongue. Smooth and creamy. Well carbonated. Overall, this was a treat. More enjoyable than the original Double Pilsner in my opinion.
