According to the server at Freshcraft during Craft Beer Week the beer was made with blue spruce tips hand picked from the brewer’s back yard. Served to pint glass the beer arrives a dark brown opaque hazy color with a 1 finger tan colored head, good retention and lacing. The nose is roast prominent with hints of milk chocolate, spruce, coffee, and caramel sweetness. The flavor is just like the nose with a more defined pine/spruce flavor that is a bit overpowering and distracting. Tastes earthy as in dirt, not what I am looking for in a beer! Smooth and a little bitter in the finish. Well carbonated. Overall, I appreciate the effort but this is not enjoyable.
