Found this review in an old notebook from back in the day (when Odell was brewing in a non-descript warehouse down the street from the nice, new brewery. Poured a medium amber color with a bit of off-white head. Aromas of light hops and light malt. On the palate, this one is rather light bodied, with mild hops and a little malt.

This poured with a medium head that was off-white/light tan in color. The beer itself was a clear orangish-amber. The nose was very interesting: along with the hops, there was the very unique odor of drying tobacco - Leafy, aromatic, organic. Walk into a barn with the leaves hanging out of the overhead and you'll understand. Mouthfeel was slick and oily with hops, which I really enjoy. There was a good spicy hoppy bite on the tongue and the same hoppiness lingered at the finish. I think that babydoc sent me this one and believe me, I appreciate it. I would definitely drink this more often, were it available to me.

Per BIF16

Pours a hazy amber with a small white headskie. Hops come through on the first impression. Stately, but not intense. Well balanced with a chewey malt bite. Smooth mouthfeel all the way down. Overall, a tastey APA worth checking out if it crosses your path.

I guess this is the last hurrah for CutThroat Pale Ale- replaced by 5 barrel.

It had a classic clear bronze appearance with fine carbonation and a thin head. The aroma was marked by a pleasant light floral freshness.

Not an especially sharp or distinctive hop character in the taste
but a solid malt background.

Finish was clean and drinkability good- tough I can see where this brew is somewhat ambivalent in its position. Now, I guess, gone.

Presentation: 12 oz long neck with bottled date printed on bottle. Description of the beer by the brewmaster on the label.

Appearance: Poured a clear orange/copper color with a medium sized off white head. Head disappated fairly quickly, but left some nice lacing.

Smell: Nice hop aroma with some biscuity malt smell mixed in.

Taste: Nice crisp hop taste with undertones of biscuity flavor. Very nice mouthfeel with a good level of carbonation. Nice bitterness that lingers in the finish. Overall very drinkable.

Overall Impression: Good solid pale ale. I was at the brewery last week and this beer is being phased out - to be replaced by a new pale all called "5 Barrel" or something along those lines. They were experimenting with the recipe - looks like the replacement will be a bit more of a hop monster

Appearance: Copper in color, nice white head, about 1/2 inch. Head stuck around awhile before it lessened to a nice covering over the liquid. Lacing down the glass.

Smell: Hoppy, some maltiness buried in there as well.

Taste: "Refreshing" hops, malt influences as well. A very good balance of the two, with the hops coming out a little more.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, lightly carbonated. Very nice on the tongue.

Drinkability: A very good pale ale to give to someone to get introduce to the style. Well balanced, not overpowering.

Edit: March 11, 2005. The more beers I have of this style the more this beer becomes my standard with which to judge them. At least until something better comes along.

Nice amber color, fluffy white head.

Floral and citrus accents on the nose.

The taste is the real deal for a pale ale, lots of hops and a surprising maltiness, almost a little caramel in there too. Lace work was nice, overall a tasty beer.

These go down real smooth, a favorite in the summer and available in the tiny town I call home.

The Cutthroat Pale pours a copper orange with a pillowy white head that retains well and shows some lacing.

Its aroma is biscuity malt and grassy hops with some light citrus notes.

The flavor is slightly sweet caramel malts initially with a metallic bitterness and a crisp finish. The palate is very smooth and creamy and leaves a sticky residue.

Overall, a very nice, well balanced English Pale Ale.

This beer from the bottle had nearly no head. It is cloudy, dark amber in color. The aroma was muted by soap scum left on the glass.

Now the good news, this is a nice balanced Pale Ale. While the bittering hops stand out, there is still a malty touch. The aftertaste is mostly hop. This is a very full bodied beer.

I had this beer in Moab, Utah (near Arches National Park)--quite a surprise from the land of Mormon. (It's brewed in Colorado).

Golden hue with bronze highlights, minimal animation, a slightly off-white head reached a finger in height. The retention was decent; it quickly faded to a tight cap. The lacing covered the side on my glass thoroughly. It is a pleasant looking beer. The nose was EPA and not APA; I was a bit surprised but not disappointed. The Fuggle hops are obvious with its earthiness and behind that was notes of herbal spice from Kent Golding (?). Clean metal notes too and I can’t forget to mention the lovely biscuity-caramel malts. Potency was modest and somewhat inviting. The palate doesn’t impress me much, I don’t care for the malt profile; it is thin for one thing and quite dull in taste. The metallic flavors are completely unimpressive as well. The hops try to represent with their earthy, flowery notes but it is not enough. This would be a nicely balanced beer if the metal notes weren’t so strong. At the finish I could taste some citrus notes. But at this point I don’t care anymore. Medium in body with low carbonation, I found the mouthfeel to be thin and watery. I am not impressed with this offering from Odell. I rarely see this fresh in Omaha and I have always passed on six-packs of it, I am glad I didn’t bite. I purchased a single 12-ounce bottle in Fort Collins. That was enough for me. Yawn.

The beer pours a light amber color with a thin white lace head. The aroma is decent. It is malty with a breadlike scent. There are also hints of hops here. The taste is decent. It is malty and bitter with a hoppy finish. The mouthfeel is good. It is a medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This beer drinks well. It has real flavor. I like the breadlike taste with the hops. Thanks again Quaffer.

Pours very dark, with a hint of brown towards the moderate but quickly subsiding tan head. Aroma is a bit weak, and consists mainly of hop over a charred and indescribable malt. Taste is much more bold, and involves a bit of smoked flavor below the forementioned malt and hop. Flavor is slightly unbalanced, and I could appreciated a bit more spicy sweetness, but overall a tastey porter.

Sampled on-tap at the brewery. This is a high quality Pale Ale. It tastes great and looks great. I wish people knew more of this beer and I wish Odell sold more it it. Clear light amber in color with a nice white head. Very sticky lace on this one. Nice!

Floral aromas with suddle fruitiness and a pleasant hop nose.

Nice full malt flavor with fruits and caramel and a lingering long bitter finish. Very nice!
