Funky Sea Monkey

April 2nd, 2016 - A taste of the sea, with a basket of fruit and an odd twist mixed in makes this a completely off kilter brew that is to nobody's style but definitely to my taste. Even the appearance is quirky. Served in a column style glass, it has a black and charcoal look, more purple than black, and placid. That's the squid ink at play, and it looks lovely. The smell is mostly vegetal, but also has coriander, spirulina, oxidized apple and broccoli. There's more of a fitness smoothie than of sea monkeys here. The vegetal and oxidized notes are back in the taste, with a modest sea salt flavor, though it is less prominent than the marketing would have you believe. But overall a very curious taste of the sea, and an expression of utmost creativity from the now long gone Monkey Paw.
