Notes: The latest addition to our 16th & F series is a Farmhouse/Saison style ale brewed in a radical fashion. It is a simple recipe that only includes Pilsner Malt and Hallertau Hops. The complexity of the beer comes from the yeast and fermentation process. Fermented at 95+ degrees, the yeast went ballistic in on the sugars. Dryness from the yeast attenuation is accented by a high carbonation level, adding to the refreshing properties. The aroma includes the classic white pepper and wine notes we enjoy so much in classic saisons, such as DuPont.

May 18th, 2015 - Monkey Paw is my favorite gem in San Diego, putting out incredible beer but without fanfare and much of a social media presence. But the 16th and F Pale Ale is a notable exception. In the glass it is cool, calm and collected, and features a bright straw color and with almost no carbonation. The aroma is timid, but shows off some corn, a little glue, and grassy notes too. But the flavor is like thin, gruelish cereal interrupted by extreme grass licking hop bites.

On tap at Monkey Paw. A double dry hopped pale ale.

A: Hazy yellow with an inch of white foam.

S: Orange accompanies tangerine and grapefruit. Resinous pine suffuses the senses. I get some grassy lemon notes and a whisper of mint.

T: Grassy and earthy with notes of orange and grapefruit. Bitterness is at a moderate level. The finish is a little muddled and astringent.

Overall: A good hoppy Pale Ale but I found it to be a step down from Pineapple X-press. Not as bright and not as clean.
