22oz bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 11.99. Bottled 12/15. Served in a goblet.
Pours midnight black with a beautiful two and a half fingers of deep mocha head. The froth quickly dissipates to just a few tiny bubbles, sparsely spaced around the edge of the glass, failing to leave any lacing. A quick swirl of the glass can only revive a vague cloud of surface haze.
Smells of dark fruit, burnt caramel, bitter cocoa and some roasted malt. It is pleasant enough but seems a tad understated.
The rich flavor of pure dark chocolate hits the palate first followed by black coffee, burnt sugar, dark fruit skins, roasty malts, bread and a smooth underlying booze heat. Initially I was not completely sold on the flavor combination but it really grew on my as I drank.
Smooth, soft, medium full body with subdued carbonation. Finish reminiscent of dark chocolate covered cherries and roasted caramel infused coffee beans.
Midnight In The Garden is the second imperial stout I've had from Coastal Empire and I'm sold on their work. This is worth a try and I believe I might grab another bottle to age.

look: Very dark brown, nearly opaque. Not much in the way of highlights, this bad boy is dark. Substantial mocha head on the pour that recess to a film.
smell: subtle roasty creamy cocoa. Semi-sweet chocolate.
taste: much like the nose. Creamy, mostly dry but a nice semi-sweet edge. Gotta give a slight edge to the red wine version but this is still bad-ass.
