my first from what appears to be a pretty cool series of ipa types, this one is a little more basic and straight ahead than some of the others we had on our most recent visit to the anchorage location, but the quality is there and the hops still pop, these guys are on a serious heater right now! nelson hops lead the way in this, but its on the maltier side as well so the balance remains and its not all tropical and vinous like the super dry hoppy ones without this grain balance. its bready and toasted in both nose and flavor on the grain side, biscuit and honey and minerality, baked and warmer, a touch sweet, and there is some bitterness that it balances well. green grape, white florals, kiwi fruit, and watermelon rind from the hops, which seem to like the mid palate sweetness in here. the bitterness and the grain sugar fight to stay on the palate the longest after each sip but it ends in a long draw, fine by me. the freshness here is obvious, the body is a little fuller and more wintery overall, and its a cool side of nelson. carbonation is fine. subtle jasmine and honey as it warms, well made beer, sturdy and good. id love to try some others in this series...
