Poured from a capped 750 mL bottle into a Brewer's Art goblet. Moderate hand. No identifiable date on the bottle, I'm assuming it's from 2014.
A: Hazy to cloudy, chestnut brown body. 1 finger of tan head with good retention. Light lacing.
S: Lightly roasted malt notes with nuts, brown sugar. Raisin. Some dark chocolate and cacao. Faint cherry. Coffee. Touch of floral, maybe even piney, hops in the background.
T: Sweet, roasted malts open. A swell of nuttiness and chocolate before a mild hop bitterness closes things out semi-dry. Alcohol is consistent with 8% ABV and nicely warming.
M: Moderate carbonation with a medium body. A touch too much effervescence out of the gates, but smooths out nicely.
O: Solid doppelbock and one of the better I've had brewed stateside. Well balanced, not at all cloying. Very nice outing.
Prost!

Pours dark brown with not much of a head.
Smell is toasted Carmel malts. A bit boozy in the smell as well.
Tastes more Smokey than the usual doppelbock, but thick and cream
Good version of a great style. Nick got two bottles, we'll try it in a few months.

S: Sweet malts. Candi sugar. Plus all of the characteristic Belgian notes.
T: Tastes Belgian. Sweet malts. Caramel. Raisins. Fruit cake and figs.
M: Slight carbonation coarseness.
O: Haven't had too many Doppelbocks but this was a decent version.
