From the can it pours a dark mahogany color that is black in the glass. A large creamy foam head threatens to spill over. There is thick lacing throughout.
The nose is sweet with lots of chocolate notes, both dark and milk chocolate. There are also aromas of lightly nutty malts, dark toast and dark fruit.
Full bodied, smooth and mouth coating. The carbonation is very gentle, perhaps too much so. As with the aroma, flavors of milk and dark chocolate dominate. Malt forward and sweet with a very modest earthy hops bitterness. Notes of caramel, toffee, toasty, dark biscuity malts and fruity/floral hops. Bright fruity flavors include raisin and cherry. The finish is sweet.
There are some nice Porter like flavors, however, it was a touch too sweet as I feel it could have been better balanced with more roasty dark malts characteristics and more bitterness. The carbonation was also a bit too still.
