I have been off & on for a period of time with respect to The CANQuest (tm), simply because of The Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody, but now that things are manageable, I am VERY interested in seeing what is in these CANs!
From the CAN: Nothing but a Crack 'n' peel label that doesn't impart anything new. 8=(
I Crack!ed it open, but since it was another pint CAN (are these the wave of the future?), I went with a slow, gentle Glug into the awaiting glass. Once acCANplished, an in-glass swirl raised just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with decent retention that left behind some nice lacing as a reminder of its visit. Color was a gorgeous Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) with NE-quality clarity, enticing a visit from The Gelt Gang of Midas, Mammon & Croesus. Nose was odd for the style, but VERY vinous! During a 2.5-year period, my maternal uncle & I both lived in the SF Bay Area at a time when he was really into the production of homemade wine. He was more into reds & fruits than white wines, but we made a few with pre-squeezed juices, so I have some familiarity. The nose was white grape-y, slightly astringent & now, it had my undivided attention. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was very vinous, pretty astringent, mildly tart and absolutely dry. My goodness! I could have been drinking a white wine spritzer at a fern bar in an airport hotel's lobby at this rate! JK. I know NOTHING about such places. ;=) This was absolutely hops-driven & kudos to the brewers for using a strain that so mimics wine grapes. That said, this was not in the realm of the style's flag bearer, SNPA & since we are to review to style, not to taste, I have no choice but to be less lenient than I would like to be. Finish was gaspingly dry. I was reaching for my asthma inhaler as a result. I really, really liked it, but it just was not quite to style.

Definitely in the west coast style, a clear cut bitterness with a background of subtle hop accents and character. Not a lot of citrus here or tropical fruit but you can't say it's missing either. Very clean, if this keg is old which I'd assume it is, I'd love to try this fresh. Clear, light gold in color.

16 oz can poured into tulip glass
A: Light amber caramel in color with a very small white head that dissappeared quickly. Slightly hazy body.
S: Slight smell of berries and some white grapes with a little bit of a candied sweet maltiness.
T: Surprisingly light berry taste just hints very earthy. Has a very vine like taste earthy and is pretty bitter for an APA.
M: Very soft carbonation almost tastes flat, and a little bit of syrupyiness which is odd for such a low ABV. Very dry on the finish.
O: This showcases Nelson Savin pretty well but is surprisingly bitter. It is just an ok beer, fairly dry and more vine like in its taste then fruity.
