16oz 'pint' at the Underground in Edmonton. Single-hopped with the Azacca varietal, but I don't know if this is part of the Growhop series or not.
This beer appears a clear, pale golden amber colour, with two skinny fingers of puffy, densely foamy, and somewhat creamy off-white head, which leaves some eroding limestone wall lace around the glass as it gently abates.
It smells of prominently citrusy and spicy herbal hops, bready, doughy pale and caramel malt, further pome fruit notes, and a softly floral booziness. The taste is bready, grainy caramel malt, mildly spicy florals, sweet citrus cream, further earthy candy sugars, a touch of green pine resin, and a receding alcohol astringency.
The bubbles are pretty restrained in their weakly-rendered frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and mostly smooth, with a thin attendant creaminess. It finishes well off-dry, the malt not taking no for an answer, while the spicy, citrusy, and floral hops continue to ply their wares.
A decent enough IPA, these hybrids starting to show their inbred qualities (not a bad thing for plants), wherein all the flavours start to seem mixed and muddled, a bit. Tasty, but overall, a tad staid in the balance between the base malt/yeast and guest hop here.
