After 20 years of brewing, we still love the smell of hops in the morning. For this big Double IPA, Tropical hops explode over a crisp malt base. At 9.2% we aren’t kitten around, so pounce while you can and get your paws on this.

First brewed in 2017, this cat-tastic brew really blew us away with its deep gold with moderate haze, and a clean aroma boasts notes of cut grass, orange, and hints of tropical fruit from a Galaxy dry-hop. Chinook and Citra give this DIPA a classic crispy Pacific Northwest hop finish.

16 oz can - I gather this was there 16th anniversary beer brought back for year 20!
Pours a bright hazy golden orange with a massive creamy white head that laces beautifully.
Smells of grainy pale malt, bright tropical hops, a bit of pine and just a hint of orange, tangerine.
Tastes of sweet tropical fruit, tangerine, candied orange peel, some piney resin, on a grainy pale malt base - hint of caramel. Honestly the bitterness is there but not in your face.
Bright medium full mouthfeel - brisk carbonation, tropical sweetness and yeah at the end a touch of boozy burn.
Not "world class" but really very decent and, well, that name, that label - awesome.

Phillips Brewing 'Hopocalypse Meow 16th Anniversary Ale' @ 9.2% , served on *cask* at GCBF'17 & a 650 ml bottle , fast forward to 2022 now in a 473 ml can (part of 20 years of Beers celebration)
A-pour is gold from the cask/bottle/can to a slight hazy gold in the glass with a large size white head leaving a spotty lace along the sampler/pint/Spiegelau
S-I love the smell of hops in the morning , smells like victory for Chinook & Citra , dry-hopped Galaxy
T-clean and crisp DIPA , almost juicy , decent malt base , very dry finish
MF-ok carbonation , feels full bodied
Ov-very drinkable , including *cask* version , glad to see it back in 2022

650ml bottle, Phillips' current Anniversary ale - not going to bother looking up which one, that's how long we've been at this!

This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium golden yellow colour, with three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly off-white head, which leaves some streaky snow rime lace around the glass as it lazily subsides.

It smells of gritty and grainy pale malt, mildly dank pine resin, a muddled tropical fruitiness, further domestic citrus rind, and some plain leafy, weedy, and gently perfumed floral green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery pale malt, a lesser caramel sweetness, still indistinct exotic fruity notes, citrus vodka, and more zingy leafy, piney, and soused-up floral verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is active in its palate-kneading frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and sort of smooth, as both that piney acerbity and hovering alcohol measure do some minor surface damage here. It finishes trending dry, the malt wavering, while the hops and booze kick 'er into another gear.

Overall, this is an agreeable enough big-boy IPA - in a world where hop bitterness in the style seems to be getting phased out, Hopocalypse Meow (keep the pop culture puns coming, dudes) does not shy away. Another worthy entrant in their litany of anniversary releases, if one with perhaps a bit too much heat. Ah well, if you can't stand the heat, get outta the kitchen.
