Appearance - Pours a hazy gold with three fingers of frothy white head.

Smell - citrus, earthy, leafy, musty, and floral hops, citrus and orange peel, grapefruit peel, bready malts, hint of rice aromas, and earthy yeast.

Taste - citrus, earthy, leafy, musty, and floral hops upfront. The citrus, orange, and grapefruit peel follow suit. The brew is rounded out by the bready malts, hint of rice aromas. and earthy yeast.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes sticky with the hops and citrus notes lingering.

Overall - Well what we've got here is a bitter IPA that boasts a lot of hop profile with the citrus elements and malts acting as supporting cast members. A pleasant and quaffable tipple from Phillips.

650ml bottle - it seems that Phillips has toned down the wattage of their anniversary offerings of late. Oh well, I guess one wouldn't want to make a high-test IPA every year.

This beer pours a clear, medium golden yellow colour, with three chubby fingers of puffy, rocky, and bubbly dirty white head, which leaves some decent, broadly webbed lace around the glass as it slowly and evenly subsides.

It smells of gritty and grainy cereal malt, some orange, red grapefruit, and lemon citrus peel, wet rice cakes, a hint of earthy yeastiness, and more leafy, musty, and herbal green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery pale malt, rice pudding, muddled domestic citrus rind, ephemeral estery yeast, and more understated leafy, herbal, and piney hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its palate-supporting frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and mostly smooth, with a hint of hop acridity maybe not playing so nice with the local kiddos here. It finishes trending dry, the hops consolidating their stranglehold.

Overall - well my oh my, what do I see in front of me? Is it a frontal lobotomy? Nope, just an IPA with some god damn bitterness to it! Yeah, the rice thins out the malt effect to a certain extent, but it still holds up, making for yet another pleasant celebratory quaff!

Poured from a 650ml bottle. This one is Phillips new limited edition release to mark its 17th anniversary.
A: Pours a clear light gold with a thick white head/no lacing/lots of bubbles.
S: A very mild yeast nose, not much there.
T: Very dry reminds me of there Unicorn White IPA in taste mild hops with a hint of spice. Kind of like the Brut style IPA's that are making the rounds.
F: Light body very clean and crisp lots of carbonation.
O: A nice easy drinking Rice IPA great as today Aug 11 its hot as hell here.
