Brewed with our signature weizen yeast, this unfiltered, 'cloudy' hef is a perfect match for the lazy days of summer. It's hip to be hazy.

Single 341 ml brown bottle, a single from the Phillips mixed pack. Label as pictured below.
Slightly hazy, yellow golden color, with a foamy white head. Chunks of lace, good head retention.
It smells of a typical hefe, a bit earthy, some yeast, banana, clove, and a mild earthy hoppiness.
The taste has wheat malt, more yeast flavor, light and refreshing, ends with leafy, earthy hops.
The body and mouth feel are medium light, smooth and not overly bubbly.
Overall, a nice clean example of the style.

Bottle "liberated" from a mixed pack (not shoplifted, snagged from a craft beer wall) and poured into a weizen glass. A cloudy light yellow just grading into amber with a half-finger of large white bubbles. Aroma features the requisite banana-like esters, rather candy-like, with a co-occurring root cellar earthy funkiness. I want to say clove but its too musty and dry. Old cloves? Palate is much the same, with added fragrant hay, apple, mustard, and candied orange notes. Rather tart, tannic, and earthy, subtly grainy, farmhouse-like but far more fruity. Carbonation is assertive but not caustic, body is full and maybe on the heavy side for a hefe. Interesting mix of attributes, this. Its not a run of the mill take on the style. I am digging the spiciness but its not only the clove-like phenols you'd expect. There is an odd mustard-like overtone. The label brings back the 'ol prairies, as does the down to earth wheat spice and crisp dry finish. A worthy member of the Phillips canon.

Appearance: Very pale yellow, slight haze, active carbonation, moderate sized white head. Looks very nice in a weizen glass.
Smell: Grains and creamy fruit (such as banana).
Taste: Lots of wheaty grains and barely ripe banana. Just a hint of spice. Bright on the palate, very lively and fresh. Finishes dry and a little tart. Quite summery.
Mouthfeel: Rather peppy, but still nice and smooth.
Overall: This is my first Hefeweizen, so I am by no means an expert, but I found this to be a great summer beer. Something you would want to sip on a porch as the sun sets.

341ml bottle, a single refugee from the current Phillips mix pack.
This beer pours a hazy medium golden straw hue, with three hefty fingers of loosely foamy, and broadly puffy white head, which leaves some broadly spaced island group lace around the glass as it quickly sinks away.
It smells of sharp earthy, musty yeast, high school science lab banana esters, a coriander/clove midpoint spiciness, and a mildly leafy hoppiness. The taste is grainy, edgy wheat malt, understated, or perhaps just simple yeast notes, dry banana chips, a bit of apple fruit astringency, and leafy, earthy hops.
The carbonation is even, soft, and duly frothy, the body medium-light in weight, and agreeably smooth. It finishes well off-dry, the subdued banana, clove and wheat tropes fulfilling a rather preordained, if pleasant, destiny of sorts.
While not an outstanding or world-beater version of the style, this one still stands up tall and strong, worthy of respect, and multiple indulgences, should this be your particular pick of old-school German poison.

has the appearance of a hef-cloudy, straw-yellow, white head (about a pinkie-finger's worth) but ... too lemony-tart & over-carbonated for my taste - didn't find those loverly banana/clove flavors in this bottle (of course, buying a taster's pack, I've 2 more bottles to test to see if this particular bottle was off - but at this writing I'm being generous giving it an overall 2.5 - keep on hoisting, lads-n-lasses ; )

Part of a Phillips dozen mixer
A - hazy straw golden, thumb of white head retained at a thin covering
S - mild estery banana & spice, grainy and adjunct like aromas
T - much like the nose, mild but still dominated by the pleasant yeasty flavours, mild grainy malt and leafy hops late in the finish
M - light body, creamy smooth with a slightly dry finish
O - a tasty and easy drinking hefe, as advertised this makes a great summertime beverage, I enjoyed this on a hot day and it hit the spot
