The eradication of the pesky backlog CANtinues as The CANQuest (tm) racks 'em up, sets 'em down & generally does its own thing!
From the CAN: "Volunteer*Contribute*Fight Hunger*Donate*Pay It Forward*Do Good*Give Back"; "Proud to support Feed More"; "Autumn russet in color with a rocky head and rich, malty notes, this traditional German- style bock beer matures for weeks in our lagering tanks yielding a clean, caramel laced finish."; "Give Bock is brewed in honor of the commitment made by all of FeedMore's team members, volunteers and donors to fight hunger in Central Virginia. Your purchase of this beer supports FeedMore. Visit feedmore.org to learn how else you [CAN] help bring hunger relief to those in need."
I Crack!ed the vent open & beCAN a slow, gentle Glug into the awaiting glass. Once sufficiently deCANted, an in-glass swirl was in order. This resulted in just under two fingers of fizzy, foamy, light-tan head that quickly dissipated into mere wisps. Color was a fabulous Deep Amber/Light Copper to Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was extremely malty sweet, less bready than doughy, but quite in keeping with the style. They mentioned "caramel", but I was not getting it on the nose. Instead, it just had the yeasty, malty sweetness of proofing bread dough. Mmm. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, not watery, but a little light for the style. The taste was less sweet than the nose had led me to expect. It was very earthy with a nutty (almond/pecan/peanut) flavor along with a doughy breadiness. Finish was in that twilight zone between semi-sweet & semi-dry. I liked it pretty well, but one was satiating. YMMV.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a pint glass. Dense brown hazy color with some yellow light coming through. Small antique white head that fades fast. Some lacing. Aroma is pretty mild, some caramel malt and an overall malty aroma. Taste is more pronounced. Sweet caramel malt, mostly bready malt and a little bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, fairly light but not watery. I could drink a few of these!!!!

Attractive, red-colored Bock, but, the head immediately goes away....like a soft-drink (my biggest criticism). Smells of malt, Malt, MALT, just as a real Bock should. I'm glad to say too--they didn't follow the siren-song of over-hopping--as do so many quality American craft brewers--as Bock must never be about hops. Taste is especially delicious--predominantly malt, but with a smooth, clean, crispness, from proper hopping--and with no cloying malt after-taste. Mouth-feel is rich and thick--all-about-malt.... but with a Clean finish, balanced just right.
Nice Beer! Well done Hardywood! Let's just get some head-retention, and it will be excellent!

The date on the bottom of the can says 01-26-16 13:41
Appearance: The body has pretty good clarity with a medium brown color lending hints of orange hue to the edges as light passes beneath its short light-tan head. It doesn't have much retention or lacing but the color is very nice.
Aroma: There is a light aroma of slightly buttery caramel with a bit of a mineral aroma and just a touch of alcohol. It has a bit of a rough edge to the scent.
Taste: It is a very light tasting beer. It gives this slightly sweet malty flavor with a touch of bread flavor and a hint of earthy hop character. It's very delicate but at the same time it feels a bit watered down.
Mouthfeel: A nice layer of bitterness develops sip after sip of tasting this beer. It sits nicely on the palate with that layer of bitterness to complement the malty sweetness. The body is light and so is the carbonation. It is an extremely easy beer to drink.
Overall: It would be a nice beer to just grab and enjoy a few but it is easily forgettable. It's not a beer I recommend going out and searching for but it's the kind of beer you could pick up a six pack to throw in an ice chest for a picnic or camping trip that somebody will enjoy.

Poured dark amber/brown into a goblet. The smell was spicy and malty. The taste was a tad sweeter than most bocks, but still true to the style. This was a good beer in one of my favorite styles. I'll get this again and explore the rest of this local brewery's offerings.

This is a very nice dunkel bock! Pours a dark amber with a wreath of fine foam and a generous smattering of lace.the head retires fairly quickly to a continually regenerated wreath. The nose yells toasty malts and alcohol..a bit sweet, spicy, warming. The flavor follows suit, but perhaps falls just a tad short in complexity. Still, it is neither cloying, nor overly roasty. Finishes dry, smooth, and long. The bitterness of the dark malt and the hopping just balances the brew neicely, riht where it should be: a touch on the sweet side, but clean. A little more carbonation would cleanse the palate a touch hetter in the finish, but there is nice length, espresso coffee notes, and a clean finish. Very nice beer and true to the dunkler side of bock.

Poured from a can into a pint glass. A medium dark, rich color. The smell seemed like many other bocks. I thought the taste and feel were good. Overall, I think this is a good beer and would most definitely buy it again.
