Hardywood Cuvée Gold artfully blends the elegance of wine country with the gentle and balanced characteristics of a traditional Belgian-style Golden Ale. Combining both young and mature vintages aged in freshly emptied Sauvignon Blanc barrels, Cuvée Gold offers light earthy aromatics, a subtle sweetness and a hint of toasted oak that are delightfully dry and delicate on the palate, with lasting white grape and stone fruit undertones.

750 ml bottle into a tulip glass. 2017 edition, had 1/18/19.
Pours a bright golden yellow, fairly clear, with a one and a half inch foamy head with good retention and a good amount of foamy lacing. Aromas of Belgian yeast, white wine, light malt, white grapes, candi sugar, some spices, some black pepper when warm. Flavors of white wine, malt, Belgian yeast, spices, white grapes, candi sugar, a fair amount of sweetness on the finish. Smooth, a good light to medium body, well carbonated.
The wine barrels are great, but the base beer could be stronger. It’s a little sweeter than you would expect. Still, it’s good and enjoyable.

Slightly hazy golden orange with a two finger head in a Teku glass. Looks nice. Nose is subtle fruit with a hint of yeast. The taste is wonderful and reminds me a bit of classic Belgian triple with an extra juicy note at the end. Fruity esters a plenty. Peach with vanilla oak undertones with a yeast bite in the finish. Dry and medium-heavy body. I forget how much I like the classic Belgian style ales and this is definitely in that ballpark.

On-tap at Hardwood Park Craft Brewery, Richmond, VA
A: The beer is slightly hazy yellow in color and has a light to moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a narrow white collar around the edge of the glass and a thin patch of bubbles in the center.
S: Light aromas of Belgian yeast and toasted oak are preset in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has additional notes of Sauvignon Blanc from the barrel aging.
M: It feels just about medium-bodied and very smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I really liked how the barrel aging softened up the beer.
Serving type: on-tap

Picked up a bottle at Barrel Chest in Roanoke.
A: Pours a hazy, beautiful apricot with maybe a half finger of white head. Excellent.
S: White wine, pear, peaches. A bit sour.
T: More of the Belgian yeast and funk comes out instead of the wine. A bit of apricot and pear, dry fruits.
M: Very fresh, medium bodied, and well carbonated.
