Collaboration with New Belgium. Brewed for SAVOR 2017.
SAVOR X is a robust Baltic porter brewed with Virginia-sourced hops and Colorado-sourced cocoa husks. Pleasant notes of roasted malt and caramel. The addition of cocoa husks from Nuance Chocolate in Fort Collins provides a distinct milk chocolate finish.

From notes:
The beer's appearance is good. It pours a nice off white head and and a dark chocolate black that has notes of chocolate brown. It looks good for the style.
The smell and taste have a good combination of mellow notes. The smell has a good sweet but soft caramel note alongside a delicious and slightly sugary cocoa note and milk chocolate note. The taste has a combination with sweet dark chocolate notes and subtle cocoa that has a caramel note running through it and combines well with the other notes. There is also a slight tang as well.
The body is heavy and creamy. It has a nice slight thinness but has a smooth and liquid milk chocolate feel to it. It has tiny almost unnoticeable carbonation. Pretty good.
It's a pretty good Baltic that is middle of the road but can definitely appeal to all sorts of people. Hardywood and New Belgium definitely brought their game with is. It's a good blend of notes that complement each other and is worth searching for if possible.

A: This poured a translucent dark cherry with almost no head.
S: It smelled like mild coffee and dry cocoa powder, with some earthy molasses.
T: It tasted like mild coffee and cream, with some cocoa powder and earthy nutty malt. It had a clean and sweet aftertaste.
M: It was thick with a little carbonation. Huge chewy body.
D: This was a decent brew, but it seemed more like a sweet stout than a Baltic porter. The scent and taste were rich and enjoyable but simplistic. The body was perhaps too big for the style, but the finish was really smooth with well hidden alcohol, so it was quite easy to drink. Probably not for aging. Fresh is ok but not great.
