Crisp, clean and incomparably quaffable, Hardywood Pils sparkles a brilliant shade of gold with a rich, cloud-white head. Hand crafted with only the finest European pilsner malt and German noble hops, Pils is patiently conditioned for weeks in our lagering tanks, maturing into a beer that refreshes the palate and satiates the soul. This classic pilsner is the quintessential lager beer in its purest form, brewed in strict accordance with the Reinheitsgebot Law. Hardywood Pils is a nod to old world tradition offered by the innovative brewers at Hardywood. Prost!

12 oz can from Kroger in Short Pump, VA The Pils poured a clear light gold with a white foamy head and limited lacing. Mild to neutral aroma of pilsner malts and bread notes. The flavors are more malty with some grassy notes. A pleasant drink to enjoy anytime. The summer will be a good time to enjoy a pils under the shade of a an umbrella on a quietriver fishing. The Pils has a medium body and soft-average carbonation.

Picked up the other weekend as part of a Hardywood mixed twelve pack. Not exactly pilsner weather and the Army Navy game is on tv in the background but this is a reasonable attempt at the style, with crisp noble hops and a medium grain note. Carbonation is tight at first but eventually resin retention in the aftertaste is pretty good.

This is a good, traditional German-style lager. I'm not sure why i was expecting it to be less good than it in fact is. I'm not sure I'd be able to tell it from any of the classics in a blind-tasting. Also: as much as I've enjoyed the wide-ranging trip through ale-country, along with the sours, hazies, and West Coast, East Coast, New England IPAs (and on and on), I've lately re-discovered a taste for a good lager and good pilsner. This one fits right in, and I'm sure I'll pick it up again.

Draft at Lost & Found. Clean, crisp and clear pils. Not quite up to the euro standards, but pretty damn close. Smooth and slick Grainy backbone, with mild hops kick on the back plane.

12 ounce bottle poured into a Pilsner glass.
Cloudy gold with plenty of rising bubbles. The large rocky, white foam head is persistent and leaves a fine network of lace.
Big spicy Noble hop nose with a bit of cracker malt peeking out at times. Taste is hoppy, somewhat spicy but mostly green and grassy, a little sour with very low malt flavor. Light-weight, with a chalky feel, finishes with a small crisp bite.
Malt character is subdued and flavor is dominated by grassy bitterness that is a little harsh.

12oz bottle, tulip, bottles 6/17/20.
Crisp medium yellow. Begins with a big fluffy white head.
Sourdough, flowers, a little pepper. It has a soft sweetness.
Doughy and grassy. It’s just what a Pilsner should be; crisp and clean with just a little herbal bitterness in the finish.
The mouthfeel is the only weak point on this beer. It’s a bit thin.
Very good Pilsner from one of the older breweries in Richmond.

On-tap at Hardwood Park Craft Brewery, Richmond, VA
A: The beer is clear yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high bright white head that left a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of bready and biscuit malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has additional hints of grassy hops that contribute a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is a very good American representation of a German beer style.
Serving type: on-tap
