There doesn't appear to be a date on the bottle, but this came from the 2020 GBS Complete Set.
Appearance: It is gold bodied with a slight haze. The head is medium, white, and foamy.
Aroma: Before the nose even approaches the glass the room is saturated with the aroma of rum. A closer inspection of the nose reveals an even stronger rum aroma. After the beer sits for a bit it has a very pleasant ginger and cinnamon aroma that shows up from time to time between the rum scent.
Taste: Up front there is a very sweet flavor of candy sugar and marshmallows. This is followed by a strong flavor of both rum and what tastes a bit like brown sugar. The beer tastes very sweet but it is incredible. There is a pleasant floral flavor in the aftertaste which is fantastic. It has a bit of lilac and vanilla in it. There is also this light bit of earthy chocolate right at the end of each sip which fades quickly into the pleasant floral notes. There is a lingering ginger and light cinnamon flavor. There are so many enjoyable flavors to sit and contemplate on.
Mouthfeel: The beer is on the lighter end of the spectrum with a slightly smooth and slick texture. It is atypical for a golden stout but it works wonderfully for this beer. Carbonation is good and delivery is excellent, straight out of the bottle.
Overall: I have to give kudos to the brewery for delivering on the rum aroma, as it has traditionally been hard for many beers to portray the floral and sweet-smelling scents of rum without overpowering it. This beer does an excellent job. Before even reading the label it becomes obvious that this beer is infused with some kind of rum. The label states that this is a "White Imperial Stout with Spices Aged in Rum Barrels." I have had the regular Frosty GBS and this is leagues better than it. Leagues. Hardywood really threaded the needle with this beer. This was a complete surprise. I highly recommend it for 2020, although things can change barrel to barrel or year to year. I would leap at a chance to buy the 2020 bottle again though.
