From the bottom of the can: "TOASTY 11/18/22 09:22"
Appearance: The body appears mostly black with just a bit of very dark brown as light reflects of its opaque surface. It has a short, fizzy, brown head that quickly dissipates leaving nothing behind but a glass surface and a few very small bubbles around the edge. It has a cola-like appearance after the head quickly dies out.
Aroma: There is a bit of a vanilla aroma that comes through with light notes of chocolate. It smells a bit like an oatmeal creme pie cookie. Mostly vanilla comes through along with a bit of alcohol. At times it also smells like maple syrup but it quickly transitions more towards a vanilla aroma. The aromas are good but pretty light except for the mixture of vanilla and alcohol.
Taste: Up front a huge vanilla flavor hits. It tastes like the marshmallows in hot chocolate. There is also a hot chocolate flavor which helps reinforce that imagery. There is a light bit of burnt carbon and wood flavor giving it a bit of bitterness towards the sides of the tongue and towards the back of the palate. A touch of alcohol comes through at times but it is similar to a liqueur in flavor, where it seems to bond with the flavors in the beer.
Mouthfeel: It is medium-full bodied and smooth. The beer coats the tongue evenly and it just feels great overall. The can stays that this has "ALCOHOL 9.2% BY VOL" and although it does come through and it is evident that this is a high ABV beer, it never becomes overwhelming.
Overall: It is a very delicious beer that will likely please hot chocolate lovers. The label on the can states that this is a "Gingerbread Stout with Toasted Marshmallows." The gingerbread character doesn't seem to come through very much. There was somewhat of an oatmeal creme pie cookie aroma which was largely vanilla but also smelled like an oatmeal cookie with some cinnamon. The vanilla character is the strongest here, but the beer actually does take on a bit of a toasted character with notes of carbon. I would recommend it to those who enjoy marshmallows or hot cocoa and I would definitely drink it again.
