On tap at the brewery.
A: Pours a dark black, not opaque. Looks like a bit lighter color than the base. A small beige head forms, and recedes quickly. No lace.
S: Wood tannins up front, smokey, vanilla, chocolate and substantial roast. A good barrel aged stout nose.
T: Big wood and barrel flavors up front. Lightly smokey, vanilla, chocolate and roast again. This looses a bit of the dark fruit character that I like a lot in the base, but that might have to do with time spent in the barrel (of which I am not sure of the time). Still, really balanced and enjoyable.
M/D: A big full body. Low carbonation, but not under carbonated at all. Silky smooth, and not overly viscous or oily. Like the base, this is big and with an added barrel character. Still really easy and enjoyable to sip on.
A well done barrel aged Imperial Stout. Lot of barrel character, but still balanced. Jack Daniels is not a barrel I care about, just a bad whisky. This just goes to show that bias towards barrels does not really matter. Very good, and will be looking forward to others with this base stout.
