Lot of alcohol, and you taste it right away. Boozy and sweet, it's a little much for my tastes.

$ 14.83 (Including tax and discount)/22 oz bottle ($ 0.67/oz) from Spec’s, DeZavala, San Antonio, TX. Reviewed 10/6/18.
Undated bottle but 2017 on the label. On shelf in store. Stored at 42 degrees and served at 50 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 4.
Body – Dark brown/black, opaque.
Head – Large (Maximum 4.4 cm, controlled center pour), tan, medium density, fizzy, gone quickly leaving no ring, no layer, and no lacing.
Lacing – None.
First pour – Dark brown, clear.
Aroma – 4 - Sweet caramel and dates.
Flavor – 4.25 – While the expected light caramel maltiness is present, there are also dark fruit flavors, subtler than in Belgian dubbels or quads. No malt bitterness. No woodiness is noted. No hops. No alcohol, no diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide. As it warms past 50 degrees, some cognac/Armagnac vinous vapors stroke the hard palate.
Palate – 4 – Medium to full, almost creamy, lively carbonation.
Impression and interpretation – 4.25 – If you’re going to barrel-age a doppelbock, you can’t do better than using Armagnac barrels. An excellent brew – I wish I’d purchased more.

Had it from draft in a snifter after a dance party. Great beer. Dark brown color with great head and lacing. Woodsy chocolate smell. Boozy brandy taste up front. Toasted malt and caramel. Dark grapes and other dark fruit. A very smooth sipper!
