Poor head production and retention. Body is a dark reddish-brown.
Floral and citrus notes blend with caramel grains, brown sugar, and honey. Some banana, cola, and prunes.
On the palate, caramel grains, light pine and citrus are up front; with resin, touches of figs and brown sugar close behind.
Extremely lively on the palate with quite a bit of sting, detracting from the ability to savor the brew.
There's a very nice malt base here, but the hops don't really work to complement it, and the mouthfeel is doing it no favors.

16-oz. can needed a strong pour into a 20-oz. mug to get a thin beige head made up of small and large bubbles. The head shrinks to a ring with scant lacing.
Hazy translucent deep amber appears yellow amber in front of light.
Smell features roasted and bready malts with faint hops.
Taste starts out on the lighter side with a twinge of apple cider that is moved along by the abundant carbonation.
The middle of the taste is filled in by caramel malt sweetness which leads to a citrusy hop bitterness and a semi-dry finish. There is an astringent aftertaste that lingers.
Light to medium body, plenty of CO2 despite the thin head. Nice balance between sweet and bitter.
Easy smooth drink except for the aftertaste, not to hoppy or bitter.

Poured into a mug, the appearance was a muddy dark red color with a thin layer of white foamy head that dissipated fairly quick. Stringy lace. The aroma had toast, biscuits, caramel, black tea, orange marmalade and a touch of woodiness. Grassy hops send a decent balance. The flavor had some semi-sweet maltiness playing with the grassy hops dryly. And then combines for the aftertaste. Malty smooth aftertaste and finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Low carbonation. ABV felt where it says it is. Overall, good Irish red ale that I would have again.

On tap at Pies & Pints: Pours a clear deep copper with a finger of head that settles to a rink lraving strat of lacing. Some hoppyness in the nose...that does not follow into taste. Taste mostly malty. Well-bodied.

On-tap 1/31/2015 at Dave’s Bar & Grill, in Warwick, RI, served in a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a light amber color with a large dense off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is faint but contains caramelized malts, some hops and some fruit.
T: The taste starts out creamy with a hearty malt character breadiness. Then some sweetness comes in from flavors of caramel and fruit. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while.
