Black and viscous, like the oil that seeped from the sides of this "Providence Landmark Museum". The 484 Imperial Stout is named after the infamous submarine that was retired and eventually sunk in the Providence Harbor. It is to be enjoyed top-side, and not at the controls. Periscope Down!

Good head production, and OK retention. Decent lacing. Body is dark and inviting.
Very roasty RIS nose: burnt coffee, burnt caramel, red grapes, bitter Baker's chocolate. Absolutely classic across the board, and while it may not be breaking any boundaries, it nails the style.
Flavor follows. Bitter, aggressive, supremely roasty. Brown sugar tones can't hold back the tide of roasty bitterness, accompanied by mildly sour red grape notes. Deeply bitter chocolate and burnt coffee, accompanied by earthy and piney hops.
Lively and bold, full bodied - but not quite chewy.
This beer could easily be mistaken for Old Rasputin or Narwhal blind (the 9% ABV doesn't hurt, sitting it right in the pocket for those brews).

Got in a BIF from tasterschoice62. 22 ounce bottle into signature tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, molasses, leather, tobacco, herbal, wood, licorice, raisin, prune, light peat smoke, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, molasses, leather, tobacco, herbal, wood, licorice, raisin, prune, light peat smoke, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Light herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, molasses, leather, tobacco, herbal, wood, licorice, raisin, prune, light peat smoke, and yeast/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt and fruity yeast flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, and slightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Russian imperial stout. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt and fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth and easy to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Pours a dark black with a tiny head and not too much lacing.
Smells of coffee and nuts with sweet malt aromas.
Taste follows suit, a little wood, nut and chocolate too. Nice carbonation.
Medium mouthfeel, very easy drinking.

On tap at Doherty's Ale House Warwick.
Comes to the table a solid black with a thin tan head that didn't survive the trip from the waitress station. Aromas of cocoa and light roast with a hint of cardboard and some light earthy hop. The flavor is sweet caramel chocolate and roasted malts. Light earthy hop, a bit of dark fruit and some alcohol as well. Drinkable, but far from my favorite imperial.

Appearance: Poured a deep black with a two finger khaki-colored head that sticks around for a while. Very good looking beer served in a tulip glass.
Smell: Coffee comes first, followed by chocolate and sweet roasted malts and barley.
Taste: Silky smooth and complex, coffee and chocolate dominate but are well balanced with a bit of smoke and this is very smooth.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and very smooth drinking. Goes down very easy for the style. Surprisingly little burn from the alcohol.
Overall: A very good imperial stout here from Revival that is definitely worth a shot. Alcohol is well masked and this goes down nicely.

On-cask 12/23/2012 at Doherty’s East Ave Irish Pub in Pawtucket, RI, served in a tulip glass.
A: The beer is a deep black color, with a thin brown head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains coffee, chocolate, roasted malts and a touch of hops.
T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of coffee and some chocolate, which are very creamy for a stout without lactose. There is a touch of smokiness in the background. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy and the hops presence is mild but complementary creating a good balance.
M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, decent representation of style but a bit more porter-like than most stouts, this is a solid beer to drink for a while.
