Purchased at the LCBO for just under that $3.00 mark for a 473ml can. Served at 5deg C in a tulip

A- Opens well and pours a tiny white head that is gone in seconds. Translucent light gold colour and unfiltered

S- Not a lot here but some sourness

T- Nice coriander hint. Touch sour and has a wheaty good backbone. Nothing sticks out at you but nothing very special at all.

M- A bit watery but that is expected for a sub 4% alcohol brew. Has some tartness to it

O- Nice brew. Refreshing break

Food Pairing

This light refreshing brew went well with...... Lightly dressed salad with a crushed walnut crumble

Enjoy

Slightly hazy lively looking yellow, spritzy head that leaves immediately. Points for interesting colour only. After that be prepared for something uncommon, but interesting. Funky yeasty, lemony sour nose. Puckery lemon sourness, yeast and wheat. Big punch of flavour and sourness that really buries some of the other flavour elements. Only a little sweetness in the background, big sour, then some dryness to finish. A hint of wheat sneaks its way in.

Interesting to try, but you gotta love lemon. And be sure to give your mouth a little time to recover before moving onto something else.

A slightly cast yellow body, hazy, with just a hint of a head. Very bright sour nose, which follows in the flavor. I tried it with some syrup later in my drink, and found that it was far better straight. Very good stuff.

I had this in a wine glass at Bar Volo in Toronto, ON.

Look: The body was bright yellow with a white head of two fingers. The beer was not transparent and the carbonation was hardly visible. Moreover, I was no longer surprised to see the beer served in a wine glass after noticing that the beer didn't generate a mountainous foam on top of the head. Within five minutes, the head dissipated, but the beer left a few marks on the glass as I drank it.

Smell: There was nothing special. The nose strongly and simply welcomed me with notes of lemon juice.

Taste: In terms of taste, the beer was a one-trick poney. Its palate tasted exactly like lemon juice from the beginning to the end. As a result of that, expect a very tart taste. Moreover, there was no sweetness, be it welcoming or residual, on the front-end, the middle and the back-end. All in all, in the department of taste, this beer follows the guidelines of what a Berliner Weiss is supposed to be as per the German Beer Institute.

Feel: Despite having an ABV above 2.5%-2.7%, I hopefully didn't taste the alcohol. Because of its weak carbonation, which will dismay German purists, the beer is not gaseous at all on the mouth. It has a refreshing and juicy mouthfeel that places only a few inches away from a white wine. As a matter of fact, the best way to describe this beer's mouthfeel is to think about a Sauvignon blanc without the spices, sweetness and grassy notes. All that is left are the notes of lemon.

Overall: Despite a few flaws, this is one of the best Canadian craft beers I have tried. The only reservations I have is the fact that Coriolus Effect, which is a collaboration between Sawdust City and BarHop, has an ABV that is above the recommended ABV, which ranges between 2.5 and 2.7% according to the German Beer Institute. After all, if you are to make a German-style beer, you might as well follow the stylistic guidelines spelled out by the German Beer Institute. Secondly, although the beer was refreshing, it was missing a little bit of carbonation in terms of look and taste. In short, Coriolus Effect is a Canadian beer that is very close to being perfect.
