Blind-tasted ex Name/brewery/style
L- Superficially very dark chestnut brown, but held to the light it's ultra-deep ruby red. Fast rising CO2 and a 4Cm fat mid-tan head.
S- Malty, xmas cakey, a hint of estery Belgian yeast.
T- It's big and meaty. Major deep stewed-fruits notes. But it also has a bright veeery slightly tart/sour-fruit aspect which balances it nicely. as the beer later warms a touch and opens up, I suspect the tart/sour note might be wine or brandy barrel ageing.... ?
BBE: Nov/2032
F- It's a pretty solid proposition yet it's in no way over-bearing. Ie the recipe is very carefully 'self-balancing'.
O- It's a big, very big beer. It's really made for sharing, a bottle this big, as you really can't do more than slow sip + savour a beer like this.
£20.15/750ml bottle bought from Trembling Madness, York. This bottle was a special gift ... to myself :) How I'd love to be able to drink beers of this calibre more often.
----------------
Rated+reviewed I'll now read the bottle and see what I missed...
Bottle# 07693
11% ABV - it was subtle in that regard = very classy.
Aged for at least a year in oak barrels in a medieval cellar [cool!?]. Barrels = Bordeaux, cognac, armagnac, rum, porto. [Blending all the latter, leads to this years edition].
