Straffe Hendrik Heritage is a special variety of the Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel, as it a one year oak barrel aged beer. The beer is brewed in autum and is only available in a limited edition.
The taste and fragrance of the beer are very complex and evolve through the years.
The tannin from the barrels blends exquisitely with the special malts in the beer.
The combination of the spiciness and bitterness of the quadrupel with the subtle taste of wine and wood from the barrels is inimitable. Licorice and dark fruits like raisins, prunes and figs can also be discovered.
With age the beer will develop a hint of porto as well.

There's just something special about aged Belgian quads. De Halve Maan brewers know this and reserve their Straffe Hendrik dark ale in specially selected barrels for an aging flavor like no other.
Heritage 2012 carries it's thirteen years of maturity into the snifter with a nearly still, brandy looking burgundy. With struggling foam formation, the nearly still ale teases the senses with dark fruit, hearty spice, vinous tones and a drift of brown sugar and coffee cake. Malt sweetness washes the palate with sorghum, brown sugar, hard candy and dried fruit. More fruit flavors emerge with raisin, date, fig, grape, cherry and plum in waiting anticipation of a spice balance of allspice, clove and generally all-things-holiday blend. Light in bitterness, the session closes with a warm blend of plum wine and apple brandy for a slow sipping affair.
Full bodied and still on the palate, the mature ale shares lighter toasted oak and soft leather character in true cellar form.
