Straffe Hendrik Heritage is a special variety of the Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel, as it a one year oak barrel aged beer. The beer is brewed in autum and is only available in a limited edition. De Halve Maan Straffe Hendrik Heritage 2015 has been aged in Armagnac barrels.
The taste and fragrance of the beer are very complex and evolve through the years.
The tannin from the barrels blends exquisitely with the special malts in the beer.
The combination of the spiciness and bitterness of the quadrupel with the subtle taste of wine and wood from the barrels is inimitable. Licorice and dark fruits like raisins, prunes and figs can also be discovered.
With age the beer will develop a hint of porto as well.

Copenhagen 3/7 2018. 75 cl bottle from Den Belgiske Ølbutik, Jyllingevej, Vanløse. Numbered. The usual grumpy old half moon on the label. Comes with little booklet about the brewery (pure advertisement).
Pours almost clear light brown with a red hue. Medium-sized off-white creamy head. Settles as a 0,5 cm thick layer of foam covering the surface of the beer. Substantial lacing.
Aroma is intense and the oak ageing is very dominating. Strong sweetness. Brown sugar, fermented plum and a healthy dose of spicy booze. The oaky armagnac is quite distinguished.
Medium strong carbonation. Medium thick, soft, gentle texture. Lightly burning. A little bit sticky.
Flavor has strong sweetness. Followed by lighter bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet and boozy. Light burn.
Slightly more boozy than the other Heritage I've tasted. But a splendid oak aged Belgian with a kick.
