On cask at the Irish Craft Beer Festival, RDS, Dublin.
Chocolate brown with a garnet tinge and a creamy beige collar. Carob, bark and roast on the nose.
Piles of cocoa up front with hints of earth and Irish brown bread, an acidic malt bite then grassy hops.
Black cherry finish and drying bitter linger. Medium, some chew, creamy, but clean.
Given Metalman's other beers, I was expecting something like DFH's India Brown Ale. That's not what's going on here; hops very much take a back seat to chocolate notes. But there's enough IBUs and lingering bitterness to distinguish this from any English brown as well.
Easy but satisfying, an original brown.
Had cranberries in the cask for the festival, but I'd be making it up if I said I tasted them.
Smoother and fuller but not as hoppy as the draft version.
