As the "blonde" ale has largely been eradicated from the craft beer landscape, Oskar Blues learns how to resurrect it- by hopping the piss out of it!
Their Dirty Bird contaminates the otherwise somber and calm beer that's the ale's counterpart to lager with copious hop additions with a bouquet of citrus, herb and pine. Its bright golden bulb sells its innocence while its taste plays along with crisp light bread, honey and soft grain... at least to start.
But those malty introductions are short as the sweetness lifts and the taste prefers a hoppy middle palate. Orange peel, grapefruit and gently muddled herb takes firm control; culminating in a moderately resinous and sharply bitter finish of pine and fresh grass clippings.
Medium-light, the beer start creamy on the palate but dissolves into a dry, crisp and refreshing finish. Grassy, sprucy and herbal- the taste concludes with fresh citrus peel and a pep of biscuit; then a long and bitter after-palate for added measure just to keep the hop heads interested.
