On tap:
Clear golden, fair white head to start.
Nose isn’t powerful, but mixes a tropical fruit floral note with some more prominent catty to garlic-like notes.
I don’t like the latter in taste, but don’t mind it in smell. Luckily the beer isn’t too onion/garlicky, but there is a bit of that. There’s a sweet citrus to tropical note, but it’s not juicy because it’s balanced against the pale malt (currently unknown - guessing a classic “row” malt). Orange, guava, little dry herb and spring onion, and a what comes to me as a summer squash like note, of all things.
Medium collar provides some lacing as the glass nears empty. Nose has turned very slightly dank. Cattiness in flavor is up a notch, as is a slightly piney back end.
This leans more old school with the herbal aspects and more bitter ending. It’s not as tongue ripping as the pendulum has swung, but it’s not fruity and non-bitter. Glad to give it a go, be interested if these SMaSH offerings turn into regular offerings.
