Dortmunder

12oz can pours a rich golden yellow color with a small, dense cap of off-white head that recedes to a thing ring while leaving thick lacing. Smells of hearty bready malts and noble hops. Taste is dominated by rich but bright bready malts and a very nice honeyed sweetness. Noble hops provide very nice balance with grassy flavor, but provide more bitterness than you would find in a Helles. Medium to full body and moderate carbonation mouthfeel. The hops form most of the aftertaste.

This is a really good example of a Dortmunder. I've known Civil Life to brew European beers far better than most American breweries, and this is no exception. Would certainly buy again.

 

On tap. Poured a slightly cloudy, golden color with a small, off-white head of foam. It smelled of floral notes, toasted bread and some citrus. Sweet caramel with a mild citrusy bitterness.
