Our "Best" is in the same style sub-category as our "Bitter" but takes a slightly different track. Its malt bill shows more copper in color, and the caramel malts add a depth of maltiness that plays to the strength of our ESB type yeast which leaves the beer tasting full despite its very modest 4% alcohol. It is traditionally hopped with English Hops, Fuggle and East Kent Goldings which offer a herbal, woodsy, and grassy aromas. Our "Best" is a good example of a 'session' beer which is any type of beer that restrains its ABV and allows the drinker to enjoy a few brews in good company.

Had on tap. Clear orangey darker brown with a beige head, sudsy lacing. Caramel malts with earthy and woodsy dry yeast, leafy hops in nose. Taste adds a hint of orange and biscuit. Feel is fuller than expected, still very smooth and cool with a malty emphasis but yeast and hops are there too. The wife loved it

Brown to light amber with excellent clarity. There’s a fingernail of brown around the rim and covering three quarters of the top. The aroma is of caramel and light, sticky malt. I taste bready, faintly sourdough malt. The mouth is very delicate and refreshing.

On-tap at the brewery.

A - Pours a reddish copper color, white thin ring, wisps.

S - More malt-forward when compared to their British Bitter, which is more hop-focused. Touch of sweet caramel malts, light hoppy straw notes.

T - Simliar to the nose. Caramel malts, light straw hops, toasted bready notes. A nice clean finish...very easy-to-drink.

M - Light, good carbonation, clean finish.

O - Another enjoyable session beer from The Civil Life. Just easy to drink on all day long and something that I would go to often if I'm looking for something refreshing.
