Pours the way you'd expect : dark with a tiny head that mostly disappears. The initial nose is all coffee and chocolate, to be taken over by vanilla and a slight hint of metallic bourbon. The feel is smooth, but not as velvety as advertised. But that metallic scent in the nose absolutely dominates in the taste. Not sure what to make of it. There is also bitterness. Don't know where the bourbon is and it seems as though the chocolate is also hiding.
This claims to be a tiramisu pastry stout. I sure as hell hope that your tiramisu never tasted like this. It certainly doesn't remind me of it whatsoever. Now, I don't expect there to be eggs in here, or mascarpone cheese, or ladyfingers. But then what are we talking about anyway if key flavours are missing? And what of marsala, the red wine used in a proper tiramisu, or at least coffee or almond liqueur as substitute? Bourbon? Seriously?
I am tired of the gimmicky and downright false description stouts that are produced by Toronto breweries, most famously Rorschach. Just call it a stout and list the ingredients. Done.
Anyway, this is somewhat of a disappointment either way. There is no balance, no body and too much metal.
Drinkable...once.
