On-tap at Bar Hop. 5oz taster. A raspberry Rauchbier eh?
A - White foam settles to a partial cap, thick collar, and splotches of lace. Lightly hazed dark orange body.
S - Smoked malts and raspberries. Fruit comes out more as it warms, as it's initially quite smoke-heavy. There's some caramel sweetness in there as well. Odd combination, but I kind of dig it.
T - The taste is a bit more of a straight up rauchbier, with some nebulous berries in the periphery. Lightly toasty finish, with lingering fruit acidity in the aftertaste.
M - Crisp, dry, and tannic texture. Medium in body, with pleasant carbonation.
D - Neat beer. The concept sounded terrible, but I was pleasantly surprised. Nothing amazing, but I'd happily drink it again.
