Rye So Sour

Had on tap at the brewpub. Comes in a 9 oz short pint style glass. Colour is a deep yellow, darker than your typical lager, not much signs of carbonation or much lasting head. Slightly sour aroma with some light malts, aroma overall was fairly subdued. Taste is a little better, you get some spice and some earth from the rye, not overly sweet, some light tartness finishing with a slightly bitter aftertaste. Body was medium-ish, not a lot of carbonation but fairly balanced.

Overall, not the most complex beer...I am not that familiar with this brewery, but feel they have good intentions and can tell their sours have good characteristics, but I think the base beer could just be a little stronger with a little more depth to it, so that you don't loose so much of the flavour after barrel aging it. That said I did enjoy the beer, on a hot sunny day it drank easily and while could have been more carbonated, the tartness was pretty refreshing. Worth trying if you both already like sours, or as a good gateway sour that isn't too off putting.

 

Base sour beer, enjoyed at the brewpub. Very drinkable. A nice sourness , some rye, nicely malted. Yellowish colour, with a tad funky aroma. Medium mouthfeel.Worth a try, and something that can be had more than once. A little Berliner Weiss characteristic.
