Larnaka 14/7 2017. 50 cl can from Food Center. Crowded can with a building, medals, a beer bucket and a lot of small labels with text like "Original", "Anno 1718" and "Lux Premium Pils". At least it does not try to hide that it hails from Romania.

Pours clear pale yellow with big bubbly white head. Settles as lonely foamy remnants bubbling about. No lacing.

Aroma is sweet malts, grains and salty sour sharp notes.

Low carbonation and watery palate.

Flavor is like most Pale Lagers from this parts rather thin. Medium sweet followed by more pronounced bitterness. Aftertaste is lightly bitter.

Not overly exciting. But has a little bitterness and is not overly sweet. That makes it tolerable.

Bottle.

A: Moderately light grainy pils malt, with light floral hops.

A: Golden color, solid clarity, with moderate mostly uniform white head that has adequate retention.

T: Moderately crisp, solid attenuation, light grain, moderately light sweetness, moderate hop bitterness with a medium dry finish.

M: Medium-light bodied with moderate carbonation.

O: Solid; the beer has a great soft mouthfeel and is relatively crisp, but the beer could be even better crisper and with more floral hops and pronounced hop bitterness through the finish.

Really enjoyed this beer. Light and fresh not bitter. Smooth and drinkable. Nice flavor not bad after taste. It is 5% and is not retired because I just got a bottle that is dated use by Oct. 2015. So unless they just did it yesterday it is still available maybe just not a lot of places. I purchased it at a greek Italian deli.

Having left the hoppy beer utopia of Los Angeles for the Euro-lager/pilsner haven of Bucharest, Romania, I thought it'd be wise to at least give some of the Romanian beers a chance instead of completely writing them off. This was the first one I tried.

I'm not gonna bother going through the appearance/smell/etc steps one by one because I'd just be repeating this same line: it's a decent pils. It looks like a decent pils, and it smells and tastes like one. Also, like any decent pils, it's really drinkable. You can drink 4-5 pints of this and you won't even feel it.

This isn't really the type of beer you'd actively go out of your way to find, but if you're in a bar with your friends and you don't want to get smashed, this is probably a good choice.

Presentation: A slim looking Half Litre brown glass bottle. The front label is a ménage of dark royal blue, shiny gold, white and red, which all support a large letter ‘T’ and lend a very high end feel to the bottles presentation. Listed as ‘Timişoreana’ and with a history dating to Anno 1718. Listed as ‘Lux Premium Pils’. The reverse label explains that the beer is ‘Produced and Bottled by BR Cluj-Napoca, Romania, Timişoara Brewery’. It goes to say that this offering is 4.5% ABV and the Best Before Date is printed as 02/02/04 15:52, guess I just missed this one by a few weeks.

Appearance: A very pale looking body, light yellow with some faded pastel gold looks. The head looks great when first poured but soon breaks to a clumpy random mess of individual iceberg like blobs. Average Lager appearance that suffers from the broken head syndrome.

Nose: Corny entrance that does have an above average Euro-Lager aroma. The malts are sweet but light and never sickly. A Pilsner Saaz hoppiness does break through towards the finish. Light on the nasal passages but not actually that half bad.

Taste: Nothing much to get excited about, but the corn in the nose is nowhere to be found in the tastes, which is good. Moreover, there is a very clean feel to this Pils. Nice sweet bready malts with a crisp, albeit delicate, Saaz hoppiness. Some restrained yeast feel in the back end. Finishes with little, to no, residue.

Mouthfeel: A tad thin and wanting, but nothing unusual or surprising. Just another ‘run-of-the-mill’ average mouthfeel that is nothing special, but neither is it a let down.

Drinkability: Easily imbibed, but not something I would want to drink too many of. Perhaps OK when attending a BBQ at the Romanian Embassy, but this is a delicate Pilsner that may not pair well with flavorful foods.

Overall: My second Romanian Beer. Pretty much like the last one, which happened to be from the same Brewery.

Worth trying once? Yes.
Would I buy it again, probably Not.

On the pour a limpid gold color with the head portly in size and bright white in color, frothy in texture, the resultant lace a covering sheet upon the glass. Nose is all malt; sweet, fresh and crisp to the senses with the start lightly sweet, top is rather thin. Finish has a persistent acidity, the hops delectable in their spiciness, very dry aftertaste, a drinkable and better than most of the pilsner I’ve sampled lately.
