I had this beer on-tap in a tulip at the brewery.
Appearance: murky medium gold with a thin layer of white foam atop. Looks quite appetizing.
Smell: lightly funky with a hint of sourness and a little bit of butteriness and oakiness. Complex but not overwhelming; I like it.
Taste: a bit sour right off the top with a nice funk. Vanilla and oak flavors come through, but they’re well rounded and not overly bourbon-y. There’s a little bit of classic saison grassiness underneath, and sweetness is just enough to mesh those barrel and sour flavors. Love it.
Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a decent carbonation and a pretty nice creaminess. The story here is the smooth, relatively rich body, rather than the creaminess. I think it works very well.
Overall: I don’t know if any attempt was made to sour this other than just the slight souring effect of barrel aging, but damn this is a tasty beer. I’d come back for just this.
