Draft at the brewery, reviewed from notes. Appears a fully hazed, deep amber brown color with a coating of off-white head and average retention. The mashup of saison and esb styles creates a perplexing, interesting set of aromas and flavors - toasted and light caramel malt flavors with the sweet, spicy notes of the saison yeast. Bready. Hops mild, earthy, with a gentle bitterness. Smooth, moderate body with a creamy carbonation. Really enjoying how well the two sides do together - would go for this one again.

Had this beer on-tap in a pint glass at Naked City Taphouse in Seattle.

Appearance: murky amber hue with a thin layer of creamy ivory foam. Decent.

Smell: mild caramelly malt aroma. Simple but not bad; its ESB roots really show here.

Taste: sweet dark malt flavor; a light spiciness along with caramel and a hint of chocolate. Sort of an advanced amber ale, I'd say. I like the overall effect.

Mouthfeel: medium body with good carbonation and a very smooth creaminess. I like it.

Overall: a very tasty and original beer. I'd definitely have this again.

This is an English ESB brewed with Hilliard's Saison yeast. I wasn't sure where to put it style-wise. Feel free to change it if you have a better idea.

Served in tulip. Poured a cloudy brown/medium mahogany color with about 1/2 inch of white head that had good retention and great lacing. The aroma has the nice basic grain and malt scents of a good ESB with a dose of spice & sweet from the yeast.

On the tongue the spicy yeast takes the forefront and the base grains and malt provide a solidly enjoyable foundation. The body is very nice, full, smooth, well-rounded and tongue coating without being sticky-sweet.

Drinkability is exceptional, I could easily down 3-4 of these without getting bored and would have it on multiple occasions as well. Overall, a very nice brew that combines a couple of my favorite styles. I'm not sure if this will be a one-off, a yearly offering or a sometimes visitor. I think we should tell the brewery to make this part of their full-time line-up. A must try if you see it.
