an interesting take on the style here, my first beer from these guys. its got a little tang to it, a slight metallic zizzle, like it is starting to go off in the yeast department, although i have noticed this quality more and more in reds lately. its pretty to look at, deep crimson to mahogany in color, clear and rich, with a full inch of off white head, airy and lasting in my glass. looking at the glass now, there are still rings in it from last night! has a nice nutty malty nose, a lot less sugar than most of these have, without much in the way of hops and a yeast strain that was probably supposed to be insignificant but was fermented a bit warm or something and now has a sort of english ale vibe going on. the flavor matches the nose, i dont like that metallic aspect, but the malt base is really nice. lots of body and earthy depth with very little residual sugar, especially for the style, which is usually very caramelized and sweet, not here. hints of almond in here, some bitterness in the finish too. well carbonated but a little thin due to that yeast aspect. beside that, this has all the makings of an excellent red beer.
