Don't look at the other review on there. Totally off base!
Enjoyed from a weizen glass on tap at Tin Man tap room in Evansville, IN.
Look: Amber, as per usual, but with a slight haze (similar to the haze that hard water has) that is intriguing and inviting
Nose: yep, it's an old ale. And yes, you can smell the oak barrel, but it is not all you smell. Typical for an old ale, the aromatics are muted, especially on the nose, but you can smell a raisin-like malt quality as well as some of the boozy esthers
Taste: this beer is definitely chewable. I chew through prunes, just a smattering of buttery walnut, and arrive at the sweet amber/caramel/red malt flavors, nicely developed with just the faintest of black pepper spice. Then the spice of alcohol on the finish at the back of the palate and in the nasal cavity. Hops muted with age provide an adequate buttering balance with subtle floral undertones throughout. Just enough acidic quality for me to think of it as an old ale rather than a Barleywine type deal.
Feel: like I said, certainly chewy. The malt has developed sweetness, but not to a syrupy nature, though indeed rounded. And overall, it is not heavy weight to the palate and rather drinkable despite the complex flavor, chewiness, and abv.
Overall: hell yes, I would get it again. Enough said! I feel it is not only true to the style, but bonus points for barrel aging without the barrel taking over. Having a beer that you can chew, get drink a full pint of. Bravo.

Served in a tulip at Tomlinson Tap Room.
Raisin-colored body and a foamy white head. 4.5
Smells mead-like. White wine, honey, caramel. 4.25
Heavy tobacco and oak flavor that meets a very thin body that completely undermines the overall taste. White wine meets raisin and caramel. A bit yeasty and floral in flavor and feel on the finish.
T- 3.5 M- 3.25
Mouthfeel leaves me hanging and wanting a thick, chewy old ale. I don't get that here.
