The name Gargamel was vaguely familiar but I had to google it when I got home to bring back the memories of the Smurfs. Wikipedia says "Gargamel the sorcerer is the sworn enemy of the Smurfs. He is an evil wizard, though his powers appear very limited; he actually seems to be more of an alchemist as his main ability is to create magic potions." Interesting...

This magic potion is described as Dark Belgian-Style Ale at the Bull and Bush Pub. It's served cold in a heavy glass goblet. There is a deep redish brown color with an inch of head that lingers and laces the glass nicely.

The aroma is mostly sweet but there is certainly an underlying alcohol smell that makes me wonder if it actually fits better into 'belgian strong dark ale' category. Unfortunately, the ABV is unknown.

Flavors are strong with roasty malt character, dark fruits like raisin and plum. There is also a surprising bitterness to it.

Mouthfeel is smooth except for the slight alcohol burn and bitterness, both of which seem appropriate for the style. Drinkability is good but one was enough for me.

Another nice american-belgian beer. The more of these I have, the more I want to brew one myself. It's certainly worth a try if you're in the area and I highly recommend the Bull and Bush.
