Picked up a growler at the Pub. Poured to a standard pint glass. The beer pours a deep dark brown, nearly black, though when held to the light you are able to see through the darkness and the edges are a mahogany brown color. A 1.5 finger creamy brown colored head with decent retention and nice lacing. The nose is that of chocolate and roasted malts and a dose of citrus and floral hops. Not a huge profile here. The flavor starts out with a gush of grapefruity citrus hop flavors that are met with a roasted chocolate malt flavor. Nice. Medium bitterness. As the beer warms the hop flavor seems to turn to a more piney earthy flavor. Finishes with a lingering roast and pine hop on the palette. Clean and crisp. Overall, I enjoy this beer. I would order another easily. Probably my favorite B&B beer to date.

The black IPA hits the B/B.
Pours, well, black. Not a thick black, though. A bit glossy and a head that is more soapy than thick. The off-brown lacing is nice to see.
Aroma gets lost a bit. Roasted malt and some chocolate. A fine line between citrus and florals in the background. Wouldn't be able to smell this one even a foot from the glass.
This does taste like an IPA that has more roasty malts. Grapefruit is subtle and tangerine comes and goes. Piny earth makes its way through the solid malt backbone to say 'hi'. Overall, the flavors are spot-on for an B-IPA....it's just that they're a bit tame, which isn't a bad thing.
Feel is sharp and clean with a hint of roast on the end. Very nice

Served on tap at the Bull & Bush.
Served cold in a pint glass. It was delivered to me with barely any head but I'm not sure if that's a quality of the beer or if it was left sitting at the bar a minute too long. Black in color with thin white head.
Aroma is sweet, roasty, hoppy but probably more so the latter. A nice combination of citrus and chocolate. Maybe like a chocolate dipped slice of orange.
Flavor is familiar to those who have had Man Beer at B&B. It probably has the same base malts and hops but with an addition of black malts to give it color. Definately an IPA at heart but with a nice roasty character. A little added bitterness here as compared to the Man Beer.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied with just the right amount of carbonation.
Overall a very nice example of the style.
