easily the strangest beer ive ever consumed. billed as a rye wine, this monster poured an almost artificial red color, dense as hell, with very little head. not super appealing. the smell was like a gingersnap cookie, lots of spice from the rye malt, tons of booze, and some dried ginger and other herbal stuff. the flavor is about the same as the nose, and is actually quite good. its really really sweet, but the alcohol sort of cuts through that. the gingersnap cookie flavor is there all the way through. the mouthfeel is where this get funny, its slimy and thick, literally the thickness of heavy cream, and with the slime of what I imagine a garden snail might feel like going down. its impossibly thick, like theres gelatin in it or something. really. its an odd platform on which to taste these flavors, and one is absolutely enough for me to get a sturdy buzz on. overall a neat beer, using rye in a new way, but the texture just didn't work for me. still, I would try to get into bull and bush and try one of these specialties before its gone. id be surprised if this one came back, just too weird.
