64 oz brewery filled growler into a tulip glass.
Pours a clear copper, with a ½ finger of frothy bright-white head. This retains with roughly a ¼ finger of foam that leaves back a moderately rich cascade of spotty lace. The aroma smells leafy and herbal, with some ripe tropical fruit character that sticks to the light bready graininess of the malt. I’m also unfortunately picking up a little off-character in the nose, with a medicinal or almost plastic flavor that is poking its head up here.
The taste is herbal textures and some bright ripe fruit (orange is really coming through), with a leafy bitterness that leaves this dry and earthy in the finish with some lingering dankness. That medicinal character also carries over the taste here as well. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a soft creaminess to the carbonation that then firms up in the corners of the mouth. A slick underlying feel helps add some smoothness to this.
This was OK in small quantities, with that ripe fruitiness of those Citra hops being nicely showcased here, but that medicinal flavor that is present just gets to be a bit too much as it eventually starts to wear on the palate. I like the effort though and hopefully this will continue to get worked on.
